Keywords: bilateral coordination, crossing midline, finger isolation, hand eye coordination, visual stimulation, tactile stimulation

Materials: colored construction paper, tulip template attached, straw, scissors, hole punch, glue

Directions: cut out the tulip template and have clients help to trace it onto choice of colored construction paper. Cut out the tulip and accordion fold it about 4x. Have clients help to crease the lines and hole punch it through the middle. Thread the straw through it for the stem and fan out the tulip so it has a folded but 3D look to it. Cut out leaves and glue them to the straw.

This activity welcomes in the first week of spring with blooming flowers. Tracing outlines encourages clients to use both hands, one to stabilize the paper and one to trace along the outside, moving the dominant arm across midline. Creasing paper also encourages bilateral hand use and finger isolation for fine motor movements, threading the straw through the holes encourages hand eye coordination and the activity provides visual and tactile stimulation through the bumps and grooves on the tulips.
